Return to Insurance Broker Fraud news on SSEM.COM
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners now has an online insurance fraud reporting system for consumers who suspect fraudulent activity. The system allows consumers to provide information anonymously.
The program resulted from a review of broker activities after national publicity about alleged misconduct involving compensation agreements between some insurance companies and brokers.
The Kansas City-based association represents state insurance regulators throughout the nation. Officials said allegations of improper activity spurred regulators to improve their abilities to collect information from consumers, producers, and insurance company employees.
No identifying information is required to submit an allegation of suspected fraud unless a consumer wants verification that the complaint or report was received. Consumers who file reports are required to state where the suspected fraud occurred and the name or the business or individual, with a complete description of the suspected fraud.
The reporting site "is another step toward our goal of addressing alleged misconduct and violation of insurance laws involving insurance companies and insurance brokers," said Diane Koken, Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner.
The reporting system can be accessed by going to the association's website, www.naic.org.
